Be amazed by the rich sound of these compact speakers. The loudspeakers in the 300 line use aluminum as the material for the housing, which, thanks to its high strength, enables a very small baffle width. This is the secret to the extraordinary sound experience.
Looking back, it seems like a dream. Nobody dared to predict such a success story, but when the ELAC Elegant 305 filled the room with sound for the first time 20 years ago, it cast a wide shadow - and laid the foundation for the ELAC BS 312.
Design and sound aesthetics in perfect unity - the secret lies in the material aluminum. It guarantees high strength despite low material thicknesses and thus enables the special shape of the housing. The almost non-existent baffle promises limitless freedom for sound waves. The sonic result is expansive, detached... magical.
The award-winning JET 5 tweeter and a new woofer developed specifically for the BS 312 are responsible for the perfect conversion of electrical signals into an acoustic experience in the 2-way/bass reflex design. An ideal combination, it enables the ELAC BS 312 to achieve unprecedented precision and dynamics in every position.
The surface of the crystal membrane immediately catches the eye and is more than just an attractive design feature. The patent-pending crystal membranes are manufactured using the AS aluminum sandwich construction method developed by ELAC, which has been tried and tested over many years. In a special adhesive process, a 0.125 mm thick, crystal-shaped embossed aluminum foil is connected to a cellulose cone to form a sandwich membrane.
The embossing significantly stiffens the dome-shaped membrane shape, which noticeably improves the partial vibration behavior, freedom from discoloration and precision and, in particular, the large signal behavior of the aluminum sandwich construction. This technology expands the transmission range and the double-asymmetric surround enables an even greater excursion for even greater level reserves and a rich bass foundation. For a chassis of this size, such large deflections are a unique engineering achievement.
The ELAC JET tweeter is one of the most legendary tweeters in the hi-fi industry and has achieved worldwide fame with its exceptionally transparent and effortless sound reproduction. The JET tweeter is the perfection of the famous “Air Motion Transformer” from loudspeaker pioneer Dr. Oskar Heil. Its principle: A film membrane folded in a meandering shape is driven by a strong magnet system made of neodymium rods.
This drive moves the air much faster than is the case with heavier piston membrane technology. The result is high efficiency and exceptional dynamics.
Further design changes (e.g. new neodymium magnet system) made it possible to achieve higher efficiency and a more linear frequency response up to 50 kHz.
The core of the JET tweeter is the folded foil membrane. With a fold width of just 0.84 mm, the production of the JET requires, above all, precision. Manual work is essential for the work steps of folding and assembling the membrane, which require a particularly high degree of sensitivity.
In order to improve repeatability and ensure consistent quality even with larger quantities, we have decided to partially automate production. Three SCARA robots are now responsible for bonding and handling. The robot's absolutely reliable precision during bonding and handling is the ideal complement to the irreplaceable manual work.
Thanks to constant further development, the JET III tweeter plays effortlessly airy and transparent, resonance-free up to 50,000 Hz and, with its maximum linear frequency response, is particularly suitable for playing DVD-A and SACD.
A special feature are ELAC's own bass reflex tubes. Almost straight from the wind tunnel, the outlet openings, which are rounded on both sides, are optimized to minimize ventilation noise and reduce frictional losses of the air on the bass reflex tube.
The sound of a loudspeaker is significantly influenced by the room acoustic conditions. The spatial conditions do not always allow the speakers to be positioned optimally in terms of room acoustics, which can have a negative effect, particularly in the bass range. When installed close to a wall or in smaller rooms, there is often increased bass reproduction due to room acoustics.
To fine-tune the bass response, a bass control shutter can be used, which can be used to close the bass reflex port to correct excessive bass response. By using this bass control lock, the upper bass range is reduced and at the same time the deep bass range is increased slightly.
