The audioquest Rocket 44 uses a carefully balanced combination of long-crystalline copper, Perfect Surface Copper and extremely high-purity Perfect Surface Copper+. LGC has fewer oxides in the conductive material, fewer impurities, fewer grain boundaries and therefore offers significantly better reproduction.
The amazingly smooth and pure PSC also eliminates roughness and significantly increases clarity. The largest part of the Rocket 44's conductor mix is PSC+.
The four negative conductors in the Rocket 44 are insulated with partially conductive carbon-based polyethylene. This remarkable material attenuates high frequency interference so that it is not conducted back into the amplifier. This provides the same sonic benefit of reducing jitter and improving spatiality as reducing RF garbage in an audio circuit.
The Rocket 44 uses polyethylene foam insulation on the positive conductors because air does not absorb energy quickly and polyethylene has low losses and a benign distortion profile. Thanks to the air in the PE foam, there is much less blurring than with other materials.
The relationship between the individual conductors defines the basic electrical properties of a cable (capacitance and inductance). Even when these variables are kept in a reasonable balance, the relationship between the conductors can vary in a way that greatly affects the sound. The Rocket 44's Double Star Quad design enables significantly better dynamics and information clarity than running the same conductor in parallel.
Each individual conductor and each bundle of conductors has its own specific distortion profile. Although radially symmetrical conductors (solid or tubular) have the least amount of irregularities, each conductor of a certain size leaves a sonic footprint. SST is a method of significantly reducing these characteristic weaknesses by using a precisely determined combination of conductors of different sizes.
The different conductor sizes used in the Rocket 44, determined using SST, enable the exceptionally clear, pure and dynamic sound.
The Rocket 44 is an exceptional single bi-wiring cable. When half of the speakers are separated, the double star quad geometry transforms into a true double bi-wiring set thanks to the magnetic autonomy of the individual quad conductor sections of the Rocket 44. A single star quad conductor group, on its own, would be a little lightweight in its performance as it is very top-heavy.
The other Star-Quad conductor group is bass-heavy; its sound is more powerful and less focused on ultimate resolution. Both together result in the optimal full-range structure. When the cable ends are used separately, the speaker cable becomes a double bi-wiring cable with maximum performance thanks to the Double-Star-Quad structure.
AudioQuest offers a wide range of high-quality plugs that can be used to connect the audioquest Rocket 44 to any type of hi-fi equipment. The focus in terms of quality is more on low-distortion sound than on visual appeal. The gold and silver of this AQ plug looks "boring" matte because the metals are applied directly to the plug.
There is no shiny-looking but rough-sounding nickel layer underneath. AQ-PK cable lugs are also relatively soft, because high-quality metals are soft, which is beneficial for the quality of the connection. For devices that require banana or BFA plugs, the AQ-PK BFA/banana plugs offer a previously unknown high-quality reproduction compared to conventional brass versions.
